Tours meet in central Marseille and depart promptly at 9:00 am. Tour returns to Marseille around 7:00 pm.

Marseille is an ancient port city well worth a visit, but just as importantly, it is a great starting point for touring the medieval and Roman sites of Provence. Choose from 4 itineraries focusing on the art of Van Gogh or Cezanne, wine, historical monuments, quaint markets, coastal treasures and villages preserved in time. Each day has its own special meaning.
Depart Marseille for the jewel of the south, Aix-en-Provence, for a walking tour. Choice of weekly farmer’s market or Cezanne studio visit (added fee). Next stop is the coastal resort town of Cassis, and a 45 minute boat ride through the fjord-like calanques. Lunch on your own in Cassis. The day finishes in Marseilles with a stop at Notre-Dame de la Garde Basilica, and a view of Frioul Islands and Chateau d’If (prison of the fictional “Man In the Iron Mask” character) . Final stop is the 11the century Saint-Victor Abbey at the entry of the famous Old Port.
Start the day with a drive from central Marseille to the wonderful city of Avignon. Known as "the city of the Popes", you'll have a chance to visit the "Pope's Palace", which is the biggest Gothic style royal residence in Europe. Next, you'll visit the town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for a visit and wine-tasting (tasting fees included). After, you'll drive to the Pont du Gard which served as an aqueduct for the city of Nîmes in ancient Rome. Lastly, we'll proceed toward the Alpilles mountain range to visit the medieval town of Les Baux de Provence for a remarkable voyage into the past. (Pictured: the "Pope's Palace" in Avignon)
Depart Marseille and travel through La Crau Plain, made famous in Van Gogh’s wheat-field series of paintings, on your way to stops which include Arles (see the town from both Van Gogh and the Roman's perspective), the charming town of Les Baux de Provence - a typical Provençal village (lunch on your own there), Saint Rémy de Provence, and a traditional olive grove.
Depart Marseille for the Luberon villages of Lourmarin and Bonnieux. Travelers will experience a local farmer’s market in Roussillon or L'Isle sur la Sorgue. Afternoon visit at Gordes, Oppède le Vieux and Menerbes, all designated a "Beautiful Village of France". Lavender Museum visit (closed in January). In season photo stop at the lavender fields of Senanque Abbey (June 15th to July 15th ) Note: This tour does not run on Sunday from November through April.
Please note local admissions and museum admissions are not included but are nominal.
Leisure time for lunch (not included) will of course be available during the day.
